So the blog has been neglected somewhat, but the baby kicks are always at the forefront of my mind - in fact the last thing I think about at night and the very first in the morning (probably because that's when you're most active).
39 weeks, and 1 day now. You're definitely running out of room in there... no more somersaults or lurching turns that stop me in my tracks, but squirms (lots of those) and jabs (particularly under my right rib!) and the hiccups almost every day. We had another scan on Friday, to check your rate of growth... 7 pound 2 ... and the radiologist showed me how you were practicing breathing. I saw your mouth move and your little tummy rise and fall - incredible. Apparently that means you're quite content. I'm glad, and not surprised - I've had two weeks of not working, and feeling a lot more rested and relaxed, and hopefully mentally prepared!
Your Daddy and I had the nicest day today (thought we'd get some 'couple' time in) - a big sleep-in, and then drive to Kumeu, lunch at Bees Online, and then out to Piha where we sat on the beach with an ice cream and watched a wedding. Of course to top the day off we stopped off at Bunnings on the way home - Daddy promises to take you shopping there. I bet you'd already think he's the best Dad ever.
It would be perfect if you decided to come tonight. If you were born tomorrow it would be 10/10/2010. Or you could wait for the 12th - 5 years Daddy and I have been together, or perhaps 15th - your Nana's birthday. Just don't wait too long!

The bump moves!
Just sitting here on the couch with belly exposed and I could see the bump moving! Perhaps responding to the light? But very cool to actually see the movements. I wonder if we'll ever see an actual foot prodding out (some time away yet).
I also wonder how, on the odd occassion, I can feel her move on both sides?! Dancing perhaps, stretched out, with arms and legs going?!

Hiccups
Yes, have felt hiccups a couple of times now as Baby Indie is practicing her breathing! On Friday we had another midwife appointment (met Linda who will be our 'backup') and as she was listening to the heartbeat I felt a little kick, which was actually a hiccup. Happened a few more times to confirm, and Linda and Dad cracked up because they could hear it, along with what sounds like a little race horse.
She loved our Rarotonga holiday, getting a bit of sunshine and R&R. Was especially active (I think perhaps I just noticed it more as I wasn't rushing around).
Has been the odd night where she's stopped me from getting to sleep because the kicks are so constant (usually on the left side if that means anything). It's very cool, I can tell I must be lying there smiling in the dark!
26.5 weeks, 14 more Fridays until due date...

First kick for Daddy
Sitting on the couch tonight, and Indi felt more active than usual, so I put her Dad's hand on my bump and told him to be patient. I felt a good one - and turned to say 'Did you feel that?' as he said 'Was that one?!'
Very exciting. And it happened again too.

23 weeks and our little bump has a bit of an identity. Not only do we think we have a favourite name picked already (poll will give you our short list), but she also has a nickname for the time being. We didn't think we'd give the bump a nickname because we've actually already got into the habit of calling her the likely top contender of her actual name but we haven't wanted to give it away..... So, we were discussing the short list at dinner last night with my family and thinking of names that would or wouldn't go with Jones (i.e. Grace). And we decided 'Indi' was a perfect name (for now) as a derivative of Indiana Jones.
And it fits that she's starting to like her action too, obviously busting all sorts of moves in there. I haven't yet felt her completely roll or move, but the bubbles changed to more like flicks and have started to get stronger. Apparently she's more likely to be awake when I feel her, although Gareth doesn't necessarily think that's the case when he sees how I can toss and turn and flail my arms and legs about in my sleep. But if it is that she's awake, then I'm a little worried if the routine will continue when she's newborn, because it's usually at night when I'm sitting on the couch (like now) or in bed. Although there has been the odd reminder she's there while I'm in the middle of an agency work-in-progress meeting at work.... but that's pretty cool, like our little secret that actually, that next piece of comms about a broadband plan shutting down or a billing error isn't really so important....
Indi's room is coming along too. We've got a cot set up, a bassinet (that plenty of Jones babies have slept in, including baby's grandfather, father, 3 uncles, and cousins), and we have a buggy, and a car seat. And we got some cute little gifts today - she's a lucky girl already.
One week of work and then we're taking a bit of a rest - in Raro!

She's a girl!

Baby Jones is a girl! We only found out towards the end of the scan, it looked like maybe she'd keep it secret, but she must have known how desperate we were to find out! The scan was amazing - the detail, and how developed she looks. Her gorgeous little mouth and lips, her hands clasped together, and legs crossed at her ankles - just as she had them in the first scan (so nonchalent). I couldn't be happier.
And now we've been able to make a few purchases - pic attached of a little cardie I picked up today. The first thing I picked up was a little pink dress, as had to have something pink, and she gave me a tiny little kick! She'll be a born shopper...

2 sleeps to go...
2 sleeps until our 20 week scan! Feels like we've been counting down for ages, but also hard to believe we're half way!
And I've reached another milestone... I'm officially weighing the heaviest I've ever been! Surely I look pregnant now, depending on what I'm wearing anyway.
Feelings are far more frequent, still definitely like bubbles, but perhaps more of an obvious feeling - almost as if the odd one is popping.
Baby Jones, can't wait to start thinking of you as our Baby Boy or Girl!

Definitely, maybe
Sunday evening, sitting on the couch watching tellie, Ollie on my lap, and definitely thought that maybe (definitely, maybe!) I felt the tiniest little 'flick'. Or was it just that the cat moved?! Come on little baby, make it a bit more obvious!!
Interesting to see the votes so far indicate the feeling is we're having a girl... just under 2 weeks and we should know!

Bubbles or butterflies?
It seems like the perfect time to start this blog, as I wait anxiously for the first real 'kick' - this weekend I think I've felt... something...
"They" (who are "they"?) say you first notice something that feels a little like bubbles. For something that's described as the size of a baked potato this week (week 17), bubbles sound pretty cute. And it's probably a good description. Not quite like a tummy rumble (I definitely haven't been hungry), but lighter. I think I've only felt it a couple of times, and can't be sure that it is the baby, but time will tell...
I wanted to write this blog on my 'baby kicks' for several reasons. First, because it's all new and exciting, and I have no idea what to expect. Second, if friends really are interested in how I'm feeling they can get as much detail as they actually want (I won't be getting too personal for my colleagues who may also end up here). And - I think it will be a nice record of my pregnancy.
